Yorkshire True Grit 2017
Yorkshire True Grit is the ultimate off road cycling adventure challenge that will take you across the stunning North York Moors using a combination of public bridleways and private tracks.
This year the event will be held over a weekend: Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th June!
"This should be on your bucketlist!" said one rider after the inaugural event in 2016. An adventure endurance event that will test you like no other cycling event, Yorkshire True Grit is based on the popular US Gravel Grinder format - but with a Yorkshire twist! We're open to entries from any bike in good working order, but the course will favour Gravel Bikes. There'll be classes for Gravel, Mountain, Fat and Electric Bikes and Singlespeeds too!
Choose from three distances – The Stampede (c20miles), The Drive (c40 miles) or The Outlaw (c60 miles).
This year The Outlaw and The Drive will take place on Saturday 24th June and The Stampede will take place on Sunday 25th June - the perfect leg loosener after a big day, or a challenge in itself!
The 2017 Yorkshire True Grit will start and finish at the fantastic High Paradise Farm on the edge of the Cleveland Way near Boltby. The route will take you across the The North York Moors using a mix of gravel trails and singletrack – in a true test of endurance and adventure.
The Entry Fee is £38.00 for any of the distances, but enter the Outlaw or the Drive and you can do the Stampede for just a fiver!
Facilities On Site
You are welcome to camp on Friday night and Saturday night at High Paradise Farm. Your family can come along too – though there are limited opportunities for spectating at the event, there’s plenty to do and see in the area - being just down the road from "England's Finest View" at Sutton Bank. Camping is £6/night/person on the day or £5.50 in advance. Tents and Vans welcome - please be aware that access to High Paradise is via a narrow singletrack road.
The High Paradise Farm team will be taking care of the catering this year - pre-event catering, post-event catering and probably the best coffee in Yorkshire! Their brilliant tea room will be open as normal. Of course, there'll also be a bar, and this year also a band on Saturday night!
Some of last year's riders questioned why we have such a comprehensive kit list - but talk to anyone who took part and they'll tell you they were glad we issued it! Yorkshire True Grit is an endurance adventure challenge. The North York Moors are exposed and you really can have four seasons in one day. The Kit is required for your own safety.
You must have:
- A well maintained bike suitable for off-road use, that is in good working order
- A Helmet that complies with British Safety Standards
- A Waterproof Jacket (even if it is a hot sunny day!); your showerproof/windproof is not good enough.
- An emergency foil blanket
- Your mobile phone - it must be fully charged and have battery life for the duration of the event. If you are doing the 60 miler and running Strava on your phone please consider how you would make contact with the emergency services...
- Inner tubes
- Tyre levers
- A pump - even if you have a CO2 canister...
- Trail tool including a chain tool & spare links/magic links
- A bandage and dressing (first aid kit)
- An emergency whistle
